08 Oct 2009 - Sandwich product
The sandwich product which is developed by Martin Setvak, Lukáš Ronge and Ján Kaňák combimes the strong information of the HRV overshooting tops with the signatures of the enhanced IR10.8. Usually the overshooting tops and their downwind warm spots are observed independently, in the two stand-alone bands – the HRV band, and color-enhanced IR10.8 brightness temperature imagery. The sandwich product presents a new image product, which merges the two bands together, allowing to observe all of these features simultaneously, in one single product.

24 Sep 2009 - Overshooting Tops
A domelike protrusion above a cumulonimbus anvil, representing the intrusion of an updraft through its equilibrium level, or short "Overshooting Tops" is the subject of an article by Kris Bedka et al. in which MODIS, AVHRR and MSG imagery are used for detection in order to prepare for the upcoming GOES-R satellite. After the first 5 years of MSG operations, a number of applications in the area of severe convective storm detection and nowcasting have been developed by various users. The focus of this working group is to have a comprehensive inventory of the available applications in this field, with the aim to get deeper insight into the differences and commonalities of the available techniques and products, and their specific area of application.
Example of lightningstroke with high-speed camera in Brazil. This technique enables the identification of each stroke and its termination to ground. The below movies shows an example of a return stroke with its preceding stepped-leader recorded in a sequence of frames of the highspeed camera. This movie has been made available for CWG by the courtesy of Steve Goodman.

The documentation part of the Convection Working Group consists of articles dealing with the nowcasting of convection. Beside you will also find here usefully information such as the link to correction tables of parallax corrections
The case studies on convection are produced by the principle of wiki, which means that anyone can submit an interesting case and invite other to add interesting material to it. To avoid abuse a you need to register to add a case study or be able to add your comments to an exisiting one.
